Fake GTA 6 ads trick people into downloading the game

The Grand Theft Auto series is no stranger to rumors and uncorroborated leaks that tend to surface online occasionally, after all, it's one of the most popular games of all time. Now, amidst the hype for the next installment in the series, fans have come across fake ads that mislead players into downloading Grand Theft Auto 6.

Earlier this year, Rockstar Games officially acknowledged the development of the much-anticipated sequel, Grand Theft Auto 6. The studio is known for its discretion concerning upcoming games. However, the official acknowledgement created much hype and curiosity among fans, which has in turn lead to any associated GTA 6 rumors prospering off the worked-up fanbase.

A few months ago, fake GTA 6 ads started appearing on Youtube. The ad was created by compiling footage from games such as Need for Speed, Saints Row, and GTA 5. While not evident at first, it was clear the purpose of the ad was to collect data from users.

Fast forward a few months, and the latest fake features another online ad. First reported by a Redditor Ya_Boi_uh_SkinnyPeni, the fake online ad invites users to visit a website and play GTA 6 for free.

The ad also features a fake GTA 6 logo with a city skyline in the background, which is in line with rumors of the game taking place in Miami, that may fool an average person.

Unlike the ad a few months prior, the purpose of the latest fake ad is unknown. However, it doesn't take a genius to tell that regardless of the form of these ads, they do not serve anything good for users or clickers.

The next installment of one of the most-anticipated action-adventure games won't be out anytime soon. According to a reliable insider, Tom Henderson, GTA 6 won't be out until late 2024 or 2025.

GTA 5 has set the standards and fan expectations quite high, and it will be interesting to see how Rockstar Games surpasses their most successful game to date. There's no doubt that all eyes are on the sequel as Take-Two Interactive themselves have said that the next game in the installment will set creative benchmarks for the gaming industry.

Certainly, nothing less is expected for a wait worth almost a decade.
