Rockstar Games might be working on a secret VR game

Rockstar is probably taking it slow with the development of its VR game after seeing what happened to its attempt with GTA: San Andreas.

Rockstar Games has never shied away from pushing the boundaries of what video games can do. Grand Theft Auto 6, in particular, is being billed as a new benchmark for the entertainment industry. But, while most eyes are on the next GTA game, it appears that the studio might have another project in the works - one that takes you all the way to virtual reality.

The intriguing tidbit comes courtesy of the resume of voice actor Michael Ursu, which lists his involvement in an "Undisclosed Rockstar Game" under the VR section, sparking speculation about the nature of the game or project.

The revelation surfaced in a ResetEra thread and has since been discussed heavily among gaming circles.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files could've been the start of a new line of VR games from Rockstar Games had the studio's subsequent ventures gone better.

Technically, this isn't Rockstar's first ride in VR gaming. The studio's previous venture into this immersive dimension with the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for Oculus Quest and L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files released in 2017. However, the mention of it on Ursu's resume seems to indicate a fresh and mysterious endeavor entirely.

Given that the listing on Ursu's resume is distinct from known Rockstar VR projects, speculation is mounting about what this undisclosed game could be. In true Rockstar style, the company maintains a cloak of secrecy, making it challenging to anticipate when we'll hear more about this potential VR game. It's also worth noting that Ursu's resume includes involvement in an "undisclosed" project from Genshin Impact developer miHoYo and a new Borderlands project from Gearbox Software.

From 2008 to 2013, Rockstar demonstrated its capability to work on multiple projects all at the same time. Despite the slowed pace in recent years, with the focus shifting towards updating GTA Online and developing Red Dead Redemption II, it wouldn't be a far-fetched possibility that a separate team within the studio is handling this undisclosed VR project.

In light of these details, it's crucial to remember that Rockstar hasn't officially commented on the matter, leaving fans and industry watchers to speculate.

The same team that worked on L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files was hiring for multiple projects ahead of the release of the San Andreas VR game.

Given the studio's reputation for innovation and surprise, any new project from Rockstar is bound to pique interest.

It's also worth considering the codename "Fireball," which has been associated with GTA 6. This codename appeared on actor Reggie Talley's CV and was previously spotted on actress Natonia Monet's CV last year. With no confirmation whether the codename refers to GTA 6, the plot thickens, stirring speculation about this VR project's potential association with the anticipated sequel.

Rockstar is known for its ambition to deliver deep, immersive gaming experiences, from the sprawling open worlds of the GTA series to the detailed Western landscapes of the Red Dead Redemption franchise.

Any venture into VR aligns with its ethos to provide players with a new level of interactivity and engagement within Rockstar's complex narrative and gameplay structures.

Regardless of when and how Rockstar chooses to reveal its plans, one thing is for certain: The gaming community will be waiting.
