Rockstar Games has been working on Grand Theft Auto 6 since 2015

It's no wonder GTA 6 is being rumored to be one of the most expensive video games to make of all time.

A peek behind the closed curtains of Rockstar Games gives us a tantalizing hint of what's cooking with the next Grand Theft Auto game, arguably one of the most awaited sequels in gaming history. The rumor mill has been working overtime, but recently, sources have provided some eye-opening revelations.

A LinkedIn profile belonging to ex Rockstar employee, Jon Young, a lead video editor, has thrown the GTA community into a frenzy. As per Young, he was part of Grand Theft Auto 6's development team from 2015 to 2018. A closer inspection of other profiles unveils a similar story: GTA 6 was not a recent endeavor. In fact, its foundations were laid as early as two years post the release of its predecessor, GTA 5. Rockstar's silent commitment towards their marquee franchise is commendable.

Rockstar's developmental strategy has always been intriguing. Historical cues suggest a strategy that sees the pre-production of sequels starting immediately after the release of the current title. Such was the case with Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5 as well as Bully 2 and Bully 3, the latter of which were eventually canceled.

Most would kill to have a resume like this.

With the unveiling of this behind-the-scenes information, it's evident Grand Theft Auto 6 wasn't an exception.

But what can gamers expect? If whispers are to be believed, GTA 6 will dwarf GTA 5 in its scope. There's speculation about multiple cities to traverse, unparalleled detailing in the virtual world, and a plethora of activities to engage players. The immersive world of GTA Online is poised to get a revamp, potentially filled with an array of content to retain the players' interest. However, the shadow of microtransactions, which raked in significant revenues in GTA 5, looms large, causing a mixture of anticipation and apprehension among fans.

Rockstar's dedication to perfection is commendable. A development cycle that possibly spans a full decade underscores their desire to craft an impeccable gaming experience. This is an ambitious endeavor on a similar scale to Red Dead Redemption 2, which consumed eight years worth of blood, sweat, and tears.

Rockstar Games' all-in approach to GTA 6 will be rewarded soon enough.

Despite Rockstar's meticulous developmental pace, they've managed to keep gamers in the loop and entertained. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's publisher, has subtly indicated a release window between 2024 and 2025 for GTA 6.

Yet, an official reveal remains elusive. Players, brimming with anticipation, can only hope that a trailer or a tantalizing sneak peek graces their screens soon.

However, it hasn't been all smooth sailing for Rockstar. While the gaming community is waiting for GTA 6, many are still reeling from the lackluster re-release of the original Red Dead Redemption, which many perceive is a worse effort compared to the GTA Trilogy remaster.

Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games continue to stay silent about specific details about Grand Theft Auto 6.

With GTA 6, the expectations are sky-high. But if history is anything to go by, the studio might just surpass all expectations, adding yet another feather to its illustrious cap. As the adage goes, "Good things come to those who wait." For now, the world waits, with bated breath, for Rockstar's next magnum opus.

  1. It sounds like they were trying to get too much done prier to 2018. I am sure they were working on the game but to what extent if they had other projects that got canceled?

  2. @EliteGamer,
I was going to mention this. They had to have more of their focus on RDR2 at the time. I can't see them focusing much on anything else. It would seem silly cause RDR2 being released was a HUGE deal.

  3. I doubt they have been doing much with the game that long. I am guessing the real work kicked in after RDR2 was finished so 2018/2019.

  4. They could have been just writing it and stuff for a few years. Doing basic testing. I don't think they officially started anything "productive" with GTA 6 until 2019.

  5. I do believe it will be out next year too.

I only just started playing GTA 5 this year and still haven't finished the story but it would be cool to enjoy this up until the next one. I will feel as though nothing was skipped for me and I can really see the big changes between the two games.

  6. This would not surprise me at all considering these games do take years to make.

That being said, I think we would be expecting GTA 6 sooner than people think. I feel it will be coming out next year.
